Hi there!
Lago v0.8.0-alpha has arrived to make your life (at least billing) easier! 🙌
Fair pricing with persistent units
Companies with fair and transparent pricing models are often praised by customers.

If you are considering implementing seat-based pricing for instance, the recurring_count aggregation is exactly what you need.

This new aggregation type allows you to create persistent usage records (e.g. a new user corresponds to a billing unit and remains active over several billing periods).

Lago automatically calculates a prorated charge for each persistent unit, depending on the exact number of days the unit is active.

Retrieve customers via API
We've added two new endpoints to allow you to retrieve customers via API: one to get all customers and another to access a specific customer record.

You can use these endpoints to check billing information or retrieve the IDs assigned by your payment provider.

Who likes to store IDs? 🤔
To make the management of subscriptions easier, we have introduced changes to the API.

When creating a new subscription, you don't need to store Lago's subscription_id and unique_id anymore as these attributes have been removed and replaced with external_id, which you can define yourself.

Please note that this new attribute is required when assigning a plan to a customer.

For consistency purposes, customer_id has also been renamed external_id for the /customers endpoint.

These changes allow you to operate via the API using your own identifiers and save you the trouble of storing our IDs.

New cycle... new features!
Our new roadmap cycle will start in two weeks. We have big plans for the next quarter but the Product team made me promise not to talk about credit notes, dimensions for billable metrics and future integrations. 🤫

Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet with other founders in person at the time, but we did learn a lot.

We took a step back to reflect on this period and share our experience with the next generation of YC candidates.
